To kick off 2026, we are proud to be delivering a deep dive into commedia as part of Mayflower’s Illuminate South Drama Teacher Conference. This full day features four inspiring workshops by fantastic practitioners (alongside us will be We Teach Drama, Punchdrunk Enrichment and Splendid Productions). There will be opportunities to meet and talk with theatre education specialists, industry professionals, and fellow drama teachers. Booking fast, so grab your place early!

Our session Commedia dell‘Arte in the Classroom: A Practical Toolkit for KS3 Teachers invites you to awaken the physical performer within, building your confidence to model expressive, physical theatre in the classroom.

Through engaging, accessible techniques, you will begin to develop a toolkit for teaching commedia characterisation and physical comedy, rooted in the stock character movement repertoires. The workshop offers quick and adaptable exercises you can immediately apply to explore slapstick, silent movies, clowning, pantomime, Shakespeare, and, of course, commedia dell’arte itself. You will leave with handouts including historical context, character cue cards, and a ready-to-use commedia scheme of work—plus a fresh set of ideas for approaching classic texts and comedy units with creativity and confidence.

Learning Through Theatre has been training teachers for seven years offering CPD masterclasses and INSET.

To inspire teachers and enrich education, across the curriculum
To increase the toolkit of skills that teachers can draw upon
To develop teacher confidence and presence in the classroom

What we offer

INSET can be delivered in person at your venue, at an external venue or online, via your chosen platform. We can tailor INSET for any size group.

We also offer some pre-recorded CPD sessions that can be viewed online at your convenience.
