I have a proven track record of coaching individuals in schools and businesses. I am pleased to announce that I can now offer coaching and entry for LAMDA Speech, Drama and Communication Graded Exams as well. I work with adults and children of all ages.

  • Thousands of people all ages, cultures, countries, backgrounds and abilities take LAMDA exams. Many schools provide LAMDA Exams, but they are also well-suited to adults and business leaders, as the content for the Communication exams can be tailored to reflection specific experiences and requirements.

  • Cheryl is delivering coaching in Nailsworth, Gloucestershire, and online. Exams can be taken at a venue local to you or virtually, so LAMDA really is open to everyone, everywhere!

  • Yes! LAMDA Exams at Grades 6-8 provide additional UCAS points which can bolster university applications. LAMDA qualifications at any level are valuable assets on a CV as they show not only communication and acting ability but also commitment, determination, resilience and creativity.

    LAMDA Exams are Ofqual Regulated Qualifications, externally assessed against published Assessment Criteria, aligned at Level 2 to GCSE level and at Level 3 to A Level.

  • The number of lessons required in preparation for a LAMDA exam depends on the level entered for, but generally at lower levels (Entry Level and Grades 1 to 3) 20-30 hours of tutoring are required equating to two or three school terms; at higher levels, there is usually a year of study with 40-50 hours needed at Grades 4-5, and 60-90 hours at Grades 6-8.

I will work with you to understand what your personal challenges are, tailoring sessions to:

  • Reduce your stress and anxiety;

  • Develop your confidence, with strategies unique to you;

  • Improve your articulation and clarity.

I offer an alternative to traditional speech therapy using methods that incorporate augmentative articulation techniques (e.g. gesture, body language, facial expressions, rhythm) to empower you to express yourself in a way that makes you feel comfortable.

Cheryl Stapleton BA(Hons) Drama, QTS, ISTA, STSD.

Speech & Performance Coach

Cheryl was awarded a BA(Hons) Drama (Brunel) and went on to train at École Philippe Gaulier as a professional actor. Cheryl also trained as a secondary school drama teacher at the London Arts Consortium, gaining Qualified Teacher Status and went on to teach Drama and Theatre Studies in London, Wiltshire, and Gloucestershire. In 2013, Cheryl founded Learning Through Theatre to specialise in commedia dell’arte, physical theatre, and storytelling. Cheryl now teaches all ages and provides Continuing Professional Development for drama teachers, along with delivering curriculum-linked workshops for GCSE, A Level, and International Baccalaureate students.

Cheryl is a member of the Society of Teachers of Speech and Drama (STSD) and an Artist with the International School Theatre Association (ISTA), travelling globally to deliver specialist workshops.

Cheryl has developed a portfolio as a Speech Coach, focusing most recently on students with specific speech difficulties. Since 2014, she has provided coaching in Public Speaking to students at prestigious UK private schools and for corporate clients.

Cheryl has undergone enhanced DBS checks, is fully insured, Equity registered and Safeguarding and Child Protection trained.
