Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Statement

  • We recognise that we all begin at different starting points in life and we all have different lived experiences, meaning that each individual has unique qualities, skills and needs. We believe everyone has the right to receive equitable opportunities and chances and we will do all we can to ensure everyone’s unique needs are provided for;

  • We celebrate and value diversity within people’s backgrounds and lived experience and through the different perspectives we bring and share. We are committed to creating an environment where all participants are treated with respect and dignity.

  • We believe that excellence will be achieved by valuing each individual;

  • We aim to create an environment that is safe for everyone and that respects the diversity of our staff, our learners and our audiences so that they can achieve their full potential, contribute fully, and derive maximum benefit and enjoyment from their involvement with Learning Through Theatre;

  • We acknowledge the basic rights of all members and prospective members of Learning Through Theatre’s community and ask for all those who work with us in any capacity to respect these basic rights for themself and for all they work with:

    • to be treated with respect and dignity

    • to be treated fairly

    • to never feel discriminated against or abused

    • to receive encouragement to reach our full potential

    • to include everyone regardless of differences, and give each other space to be authentic to ourselves

Participatory workshops 

We ask that everyone who joins our community at Learning Through Theatre, commits to all of the following. [‘We’ refers to all those taking part in a workshop or performance, including tutors and performers, whether face to face or online.]

We commit to:

  • provide a safe and nurturing environment for every participant; 

  • treat each other fairly and without prejudice or discrimination;

  • understand that we are all individuals with individual needs that may not be publicly visible;

  • respect the differences we bring together and place value on what every participant brings to the workshop/performance;

  • ensure equipment is used safely and for its intended purpose;

  • stay within the law at all times; 

  • challenge all unacceptable behaviour;

  • call out discrimination and prejudice; 

  • encourage everyone to speak out about attitudes or behaviour that makes them uncomfortable;

  • respect everyone’s right to personal privacy;

  • have due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism [our tutors are Prevent trained].
